Picking a name for our son. . .
So, we have a little dilema. We FINALLY agree on a name for the little one that is joining our family soon (of course, we haven't decided 100% for sure), but we just found out that one of Brett's "Bruschke" cousins named their son the same thing 19 months ago. This would mean that they would have the same first and last name, just have a different middle name. Would it be wrong for us to go ahead and name our son the same name? We are really torn. Take the poll to the right and let us know what you think.

QUESTION- how many cousins does Brett have? The more, the less obvious right? How often does he see these cousins? There are a lot of factors to take into consideration...that's a tough one. I would say go for it, but then again- it is always good to consult with the Mother. :) -good luck. I'm curious as to what the name is...do you dare divulge?
We were going to name Micah Brandon, but since my cousin had named their child that a year or so earlier, I felt like it was taken. I would try and see if there is another name you both can agree on. I'm so glad we haven't gotten to that stage yet. We don't even know what we are having!
Hey,
How often do you spend time with Brett's cousins? If it were one of the siblings kids I could see the problem but with extended family I don't. How many of the Challis cousins have the same name? Go for it!
Ditto Tami's comment.
Two of Kevin's neices are named Rachel, different last names, but still... they're cousins! I don't think it's a big deal for second cousins to have the same name, but I agree with Ali that you might want to check with the mom if you're concerned.
Of my more than 120 cousins, several have the same name (excepting the middle name), including at least three James'. The extended family has never had a problem with the duplication, and each cousin definitely has their own separate personality.
Hi guys! So, I just read the comment by the supposed cousin. It stinks that he doesn't want you to use the name. I voted for do it anyway. Then, in my brief afterthought, I wondered... how often do you see these cousins. If it's not that often, I'd say go for it. Not to be cold or anything, but it is your kid. It's not quite as if maybe the child had passed away, then I might ask, but otherwise... sad!!! Am I absoltuely ruthless? But really, unless they're around eachother a lot, and it might then be confusing, I'd say...eh, go for it.
Hey how did you do that thing where it says how many visits you have had to your blog?
I was thinking about this some more & realized that you just found out their kids name, even though he's 19 months old...that doesn't sound like the kids will be around each other alot. Plus, it's YOUR kid & unless they made the name up it's toally fair for you to use it. It's a little confusing to have two Rachel neices, but there were no lasting hard feelings about that (I wasn't around when they named them, but I think it was kind of a bummer at the time).

Hey guys. Joe and I think you should totally name your son whatever you would like. I had a cousin named david and a bro david, not a big deal at all. You never know, you might end up changing the name when the baby comes anyway!! I don't think you should stress about it. No one has any claim to any name. Love ya guys
So my mom intended on calling me Mandy even though I had a cousin named Mindy because we were so far apart in age, she never thought it would be an issue. Little did she know we'd be hanging out all the time in our adult years, but really it hasn't been an issue at all. In fact it helps, I go up to Huntington and meet all her friends and everyone remembers us as Mindy and Mandy the cousins. It makes it a lot easier for people to remember us and people usually find it humorous...but in a good way. i like it. So I say go for it.
